Three things to do after a collision

| May 19, 2020 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

A car accident can often take people completely by surprise. Whether people find themselves involved in a fender-bender or a more serious collision, it is important to take action immediately.

There are a few steps people should take after the accident.

Take care of themselves and the car says that people should move their vehicles out of the way of traffic. Sometimes people may not be able to move their car and in this situation, they should put on the hazard lights. People should not get out of the car unless it is safe to do so. If people have passengers, they should make sure everyone is all right. If people can get out of the car, it is a good idea to speak to the other driver to see if anyone in that vehicle sustained an injury.

Record the incident

It is a good idea to collect as much information about the collision as possible. Allstate says people should write down the badge number and name of each officer if members of law enforcement responded to the accident. Additionally, people should make sure they know how to access the accident report. They may also want to take pictures of their car and the other vehicle.

Collect documentation

People should speak to the occupants of the other vehicle and make sure they get contact information for each of them. People may also want to record the contact information of the people who witnessed the crash. Additionally, people should write down where the accident took place. It is also a good idea to record the make and model of the other vehicle and the license plate number. Having all of this information at hand can make the post-accident process easier.
